One street.

For more than two decades, one stretch of Finch Avenue West has done what no other street in Canada does: every autumn it turns into a sheri — a Gujarati lane — for nine nights of garba. Founded and led by community leader Shirishbhai Patel and a team of volunteers, Sheri Garba is Canada's oldest street garba.

At the centre of the circle stands the garbi — a clay lamp-pot holding a sacred light. Dancers circle it the way their grandparents circled it in the sheris of Gujarat: steps in three, claps in time, the whole street turning as one.

Each year the celebration begins with a blessed chundadi from Ambaji Mandir, and each year the festival gives back — proceeds and donations go to charitable causes, from the temple to community foundations.

The music is live and it is ours: traditional garba sung by local Canadian-Gujarati singers. The 2026 lineup will be announced closer to the festival.
